All footage will be captured in 4K resolution on a variety of cameras, including the Canon C300, Canon 5D, GoPro, drones, and – when necessary – undercover button cameras.
By working together with the Indonesian Nature Film Society (INFS), we’re able to tap into talented local videographers and local production crews to develop selections from any locally sourced footage (e.g., local shooters, local news agencies, rangers, etc.). INFS also has ongoing relationships with media outlets to constantly cover stories on Leuser Ecosystem, providing the filmmakers access to supplemental footage.
Rangers and Videography Training
INFS has held videography training across Indonesia and is well placed to develop systems with local ranger units to train rangers how to shoot and manage footage. INFS editors are then able to develop selections of the best of this footage and send it to the editing team in California.
Filmmaking began in Sumatra in October of 2016 and continued through seven additional expeditions in 2017, 2018 and 2019. We expect to continue filming in a targeted stretch of 3 – 4 months throughout Indonesia and the U.S. in 2020. While in production, we will be editing and assembling footage in Los Angeles, CA and at OPS Post Production facilities on Skywalker Ranch in Marin County, CA. We expect post-production to continue for approximately six months following completion of principal photography, with the goal of submitting the final product to Sundance 2022.
